Aspect : feature a distinctive conic-pyramidal shape with a plano-concave base, giving them a sturdy, turret-like appearance; often heavy and robust, with strong spiral cords or ridges; surface smooth or sculptured; large color variations; average size 20-60 mm but 140 mm for the largest (Rochia maxima or Tectus niloticus)
Feeding : herbivorous grazers (microalgae, turf algae, cyanobacteria, diatoms and organic detritus)
Environment : inhabit warm to temperate marine waters worldwide, particularly in the Indo-Pacific, Atlantic, and eastern Pacific regions, from intertidal zones to shallow subtidal depths (up to 30 m) on hard substrates like rocky shores, coral reefs, tide pools, and kelp forests
