Aspect : elongated, conical, and turreted (resembling a pyramid or tower), with a high spire composed of many whorls; often white, cream, or translucent; ranging from 1–10 mm (some reach up to 20 mm); narrow aperture, with a simple inner lip and no operculum (in most species)

Feeding : ectoparasites i.e. sucking out fluids and hemolymph (mollusk "blood"), often without fully entering the host (oysters, clams, polychaete worms, occasionally gastropods)

Environment : mostly in temperate and tropical regions (Indo-Pacific and Atlantic coasts) on soft sediments, seagrass beds, coral reefs, and rocky substrates worldwide; from intertidal zones to 2000 m depth
