Aspect : ovate-conic to fusiform/biconic, with a moderately high spire (5–8 whorls), large body whorl, and short-to-moderate siphonal canal; sometimes prominent axial ribs/costae (often 8–12 per whorl, forming varices) crossed by fine-to-strong spiral cords/threads, creating a reticulate (checkerboard) pattern; oval aperture, with thickened, denticulate outer lip (toothed edge) and smooth-to-callused inner lip; often with a posterior notch; colors white/cream base with brown, red, purple, or black axial flames, spots, or bands
Feeding : carnivorous or scavengers (barnacles, small bivalves, polychaetes or carrion)
Environment : Indo-West Pacific (Indian Ocean to Pacific), Eastern Atlantic/Mediterranean, Caribbean/Western Atlantic; in shallow-water (intertidal to 50 m) on rocky reefs, oyster beds, coral rubble
