Aspect : elongated, turriform or biconical shape with a high spire; dominated by axial ribs (11–40 per whorl); clearly hollowed suture line; aperture narrow, elongated and slit-shaped with an inner lip bearing 3–5 (usually 3–4) oblique columellar folds
Feeding : carnivorous (some species may scavenge or target wood-boring organisms)
Environment : tropical and temperate marine waters, predominantly in the Indo-Pacific region in coral reefs, rocky substrates, sandy bottoms; from intertidal zones down to 200m depths
