Common name : triton's trumpet or triton snail

Aspect : fusiform (spindle-shaped) with a tall, elongated spire and wide aperture; conical overall, often with a smoothly pointed apex lacking knobs; smooth to slightly sculptured surface; protruding teeth on the inner edge of the opening; whitish or creamy base color with brown, yellow, or dark mottled markings; operculum horny and flush-fitting

Feeding : carnivorous predators specializing in echinoderms (starfish, sea urchins, sea cucumbers) and also bivalves, other gastropods, and occasionally crustaceans or worms

Environment : warm, shallow marine environments; Indo-Pacific (including Red Sea, South China Sea, Hawaii, Japan, Australia) and eastern Atlantic (Europe to carribean) in coral reefs, rocky or sandy bottoms down to 180m depth
