Common name : frog shell
Aspect : pustulose, or nodulose appearance due to the intersection of strong spiral ribs and axial varices, forming rounded knobs, tubercles, beads, or blunt spines. Typically two strong axial varices per whorl, often aligned in continuous series along the sides of the spire. Large and ovate aperture with a thick outer lip that is dilated, and denticulate (toothed) on the inside. Anterior (Siphonal) Canal Short and tubular, posterior (Anal) Canal distinct slot-like or spout-like structure (unique to Bursidae), deep short to long tubular. Corneous (horny) operculum and always present. Pale cream color, fawn, or reddish-brown, often mottled, maculated, or flecked with darker red-brown
Feeding : carnivorous (polychaete worms, brittle stars, sea urchins, bivalves)
Environment : in shallow coastal waters, including coral reefs, rocky substrates, and hard grounds in nearshore intertidal and subtidal zones; global distribution centers in the Indo-Pacific, with additional presence in the Caribbean Sea, Atlantic Ocean, and Mediterranean Sea
